NSU 63 diesel loco

NSU63, one of the first diesel locomotives in the Northern Territory (1956). This SULZER diesel-electric is our flagship and sits outside the precinct on the Stuart Highway. When you see this lovely old girl, you'll know you've found us. Caravans can pull in off the highway on this block. Everyone else is asked to turn into Dorat Road (north of NSU63) and use the precinct entrance, which is well signed.

Overland Telegraph pole

Overland telegraph pole located in the precinct. Oppenheimer poles (galvanised iron from London) replaced the cypress pine poles as they were eaten by termites (in most cases, this occurred in less than three years).  This pole is a WW2 vintage  dogbone  pole carrying multiple circuits required by the military.

Reservoir Tour

An Open Day tour conducted by intrepid Friend Mick Kent (clipboard and khaki hat). The group is at the hand-dug reservoir at the rear of the station with the steam engine and pump used to transfer the water from the reservoir to the elevated tank and from there into the steam engines.

Nursing Plaque

The plaque dedicated to nurses at the WWII Ambulance siding adjacent to the Adelaide River Railway Heritage Precinct. The plaque was dedicated on 11 November 2007 and was co-sponsored by Charles Darwin University and the Northern Territory Nursing Museum. We also thank the Australian Army for its outstanding assistance on the day.

Open Day Tour

Instructions for keen Treasure Hunters on Open Day. The winner took home a gold dog spike (precious, indeed). The 6 year-old who won declared it to have been 'the best day' of her 'life'. High praise! Other games for young and old competitors included a Sack Race, Egg and Spoon Race, Dog Spike Throwing competition and the Adelaide River Gift (a foot race). Entertainment was provided by the Fettlers Four and, yes, Devonshire Teas were served.
